About Hanover County Criminal History

Hanover County records are divided among the Sheriff's Office, three local courts, Pamunkey Regional Jail, and statewide Virginia systems. We organize the official links, office details, request methods, and record boundaries so readers can identify the proper custodian without treating one search as a complete history. The site is privately operated and focuses on public access to government sources.

Why We Built This Site

Virginia does not place every part of a criminal history in one public database. Hanover's Sheriff keeps agency reports, Pamunkey Regional Jail keeps booking and custody data, and the Hanover courts record filed charges and outcomes. The Virginia Department of State Police operates the Central Criminal Records Exchange and the Virginia State Police Sex Offender and Crimes Against Minors Registry. We bring those official routes together while explaining why their records may differ.

What You Will Find Here

  • Official access steps: how to use court search tools and request documents from the correct Hanover clerk
  • Agency contacts: where to reach the Sheriff's Records Unit, Pamunkey Regional Jail, and Virginia record systems
  • Record explanations: how an arrest report, booking entry, court case, and CCRE history answer different questions
  • Relief information: where Hanover publishes current guidance on Virginia expungement and record sealing

What We Cannot Do

This is a privately run reference site, not a Virginia court, police agency, jail, or state office. Its role has firm limits:

  • We do not issue certified court files, police reports, or criminal histories
  • We cannot submit a records request, sealing motion, or expungement petition for a visitor
  • We do not run an official background check or retrieve a person's government record
  • We cannot interpret a charge or offer advice about an individual legal matter
  • We cannot promise that a government fee, schedule, or contact has not changed

An official copy must come from its custodian, such as a Hanover court clerk, the Sheriff's Office, or the Virginia Department of State Police.

Search Partners

Search boxes may connect visitors with independently operated services. Those providers control their own results, terms, and prices. A paid signup reached through a search tool may produce a referral fee that supports this free resource. We do not operate those services, set their fees, or decide what their reports contain.
